The XV Iberoamerican Theater Festival

Were you bored during Spring break? Would you be surprised if I tell you that there was absolutely no reason to be? This month the Iberoamericano launched its 15th edition with a breath taking program; 3,650 actors, 100 directors from 32 countries and 164 works throughout 855 performances. All of them being multidisciplinary performers. Now you might as well be saying that there is no use in telling you this since it is over now; yet it is the perfect moment to start appreciating not only this kind of artistic events in our lovely capital, but also a chance to get tickets for next year´s performance.

For instance, did you know about Colegio del Cuerpo? The delegate from Colombia, presented its most recent dance elegy “Flowers from Kazuo Ohno”. What is really interesting about the latter is that this award winning foundation (Alvaro Restrepo’s Colegio del Cuerpo) works with vulnerable youth through the “transformative power of dance” like their members call it. Amazing right? Last week was full of talent, art and culture! You might think that these kind of events are only for population over 50, well if you did believe this you couldn’t possibly be more wrong. Maria Catalina Martinez from 10B, in an exclusive interview, told us about the compete experience:

 

“My family and I went to iD-Cirque Éloize and since the moment it began I was shocked, astonished. I couldn’t believe this would be such a fun experience. I mean, it was like a Cirque du Soleil presentation combined with theater and people who could bend their body in ways I could have never imagined. Its for all ages! The younger you are, I would say, the better (laughs) definitely the perfect excuse to spend time with your family.”

And here is what she said when we asked her about the top moments of the performance:

“What caught my attention was the way the theatre, drama and absolutely everything came together splendidly. I would love to do it again next year. To anyone who gets the chance or hears about this kind of presentations should not think about it twice. Just go, trust me-it is a zillion times worth it”
