The Pachas´ community is getting bigger! You probably have seen Luz, the “señorita” who is, almost always, at the corridors of fourth grade, and you might have seen her belly getting bigger and bigger since August. Can you guess why? Yes, you are right, she is in the seventh month of pregnancy; and even though the baby should be born on the last days of April, Luz thinks and expects he will be born at the beginning of the fourth month of the year.

Now you might wonder, who is the lucky father of this baby boy? Well the blessed dad is…Eric, who works on the maintenance crew! They met each other at Pachas, after some dates, they fell in love. Who would think that the school could also be the place where you can find the love of your life? This beautiful couple has been together for over 5 years. Moreover, They have formed an amazing family. In fact Matias (baby´s name) is not an only child, he has two lovely sisters who are thrilled to meet him, yet they are not the only ones who are waiting for the arrival of the new baby, there are 4 legged buddies who are excited to have another friend to play with; they are: Kathy, Cazumba, Mona, and Mamona. All of them are rescue dogs, except for Mamona, who is a cat. Luz rescued them, because she loves animals, in fact she wanted to be a vet.

Luz and Eric have already bought many things for Matias, who as a matter of fact was going to be named Jeronimo, but Eric convinced his beloved wife to name him Matias. The only thing missing before the arriving of this little being is to pack the baby’s bag; yes, that is a very important issue, but they have already bought everything to go to the hospital, they even have decided what will be Matias first clothes.

Luz is excited, but at the same time she is scared of the delivery, because it’s going to be a natural birth. Yet, she knows Eric will be there, holding her hand every single second. Besides she is aware that a whole community is happy to welcome Matias. Finally talking for every community member I say : “we give our best wishes to Luz and Eric in this special moment of their lives and we are thrilled for our new community member: Matias”.

The Secret Life and Dreams of Paola León

María Camila Bonilla 10A

A couple of weeks ago, a few members of the Scoop Team got a chance to sit down and talk with Paola León, who works at the office handling stationery and the copy-making machine. After making some small chitchat with her, we got around to asking her what had been, throughout her life, her one true passion.

- Scoop Team: What do you think you would be doing right now in your life if you hadn’t ended up working here at school? What other passion or dream would you be pursuing in an alternate life?

Paola: I think that, definitely, I would be seeking a career path in the military; it always was my dream when I was younger and I would have really liked that. Also, working with children, at school and as a teacher, would have been nice too. That I would have really liked.

- Scoop Team: Being in the military though? What appealed to you particularly about this career choice?

Paola: I guess that one of the things that really drew me in about it, is the financial stability it provides. Meeting new people, seeing new faces in a completely different environment and just the general feel of the military deeply lured me in as well. And although it has been a while since that time, I really liked it then.

- Scoop Team: What got in your way of pursuing this dream?

Paola: I think that, well, because, in first place, it was very costly. And second of all, because women didn’t have the chance then as they do now, it was actually very hard. Today, however, women start with their service and they are considered as capable as men, and, so, there’s not much of a problem. But being in the military always was a dream of mine; in fact, I want my son to pursue a career in either that or in the navy.

- Scoop Team: What does he think of it? Does he like it?

Paola: Well, I’m trying to convince him (laughs). He’s already in tenth grade, but I’m trying to get him to see it’s a cool job, and that it’ll bring him stability. Not only financially, but also regarding his family and personal development. It would bring him a lot of support, not only concerning education and living, but also for his pension when he retires.

- Scoop Team:And don’t you think it would hit you hard, watching him go? A lot of parents take it hard when their kids get into the military.

Paola:Well, yes, of course it’s tough, but your child’s well-being always stands as the first priority. So, every time he talks about something regarding his future, I bring it up, but he doesn’t like it.

- Scoop Team:What interests him?

Paola: He’s really interested in football as of right now. But you know, for someone to actually succeed in that world, for someone to be renown and be paid well, you have to have some kind of leverage or to have a huge amount of luck. Also, a football player’s career stretches a short amount of time and there’s no security regarding continuity because, if a football player breaks a leg or injures himself, then there’s a great chance the career is over. However, in the military, he could have a job as physical trainer or something similar and he would have a better financial and work-related stability.

Although Paola’s dream of being in the military didn't come true, she will still try to convince her son to take a career down that path. Evidently, it is in Paola’s blood to be interested in being in the military, since, even after all these years, this career path still appeals to her and is the one thing she recalls as her one true life passion and as a missed opportunity in a fleeting moment in which several circumstances inhibited her from truly being able to work for the military. However, it is clear that, no matter where she is working or how old she is, Paola will still continue to yearn those could-have-beens, in an alternate reality where she ended up being in the military.

Meet José

Gabriela Rincón Montaña 10A

How many times have you wondered what our school staff would be doing if they weren't helping us out everyday? Does the big screen or a mechanics T.V show come to your mind when you think about it? What if I told you that is actually the answer to the question "what if...”?

For instance, Josesito, our kind and reserved baker exclusively told us that he would've loved to appear on a discovery channel program about cars and motorcycles. Yes, we already knew that one of his most beloved hobbies is to ride his bike or motorcycle either just for fun or as a mean of transport. "All that has to do with fixing machinery is something I am sure to be good at" he stated most firmly. Then, how did he become part of the school? "Life" he answered right away, "I learned about baking from my experience in school".

It turns out Josesito never really knew he would wound up in our school. Can you imagine recess without him?! No bread with scrumptious cheese on top and hot delicious chocolate spread all over. We often go and buy it but never bother to stop and wonder the story behind the person who makes it.

Can you believe he once rode his bike 6 hours straight without stopping only to do the same very thing next day he had to return to Bogotá?

He might seem quiet but if you want to get him talking you might as well start saying you are into cars or mechanics as well. You'll find out that Josesito is anything but shy and that you can learn about a motorcycle’s engine more than you could ever imagine in less than two minutes.

So next time you see him around school you will be hundred percent sure that there is more to each of our staff member than we think.
