Best ways to have S'mores

Gabriela Castañeda Otálora 10A

When I was a child I spent most of my summers in Canada, which meant a lot and believe me when I say a lot of camping. I got used to all the camping traditions such as traveling in the RV, sleeping in a pretty uncomfortable tent, going to the bathroom in the woods (true story), and a lot of other things. Within all of the camping techniques I learned, by far my favorite was learning how to make a S’more, do not worry it is not some type of raccoon or anything like it, it is the most delicious snack you can have. I thought it was pretty simple, just some crackers, chocolate, marshmallow squish it all, and boom! You have a S’more, but I was browsing through buzz feed and found a more delicious recipe so I did my research and it turns out there so much better words to prepare this exquisite snack; because of this I made a top five of the best ways you can make a s’more, here they are. Enjoy!:

# 5 Peanut butter beauty

"1. Spread the bottoms of four cookies with fudge topping.

2. Using a long-handled fork, grill marshmallows 6 in. from medium-hot heat until golden brown, turning occasionally. Carefully place a marshmallow and a peanut butter cup on each fudge-topped cookie; top with remaining cookies. Serve immediately. Yield: 4 servings."

- This is one of my favorites because it does not take a big amount of time, and I personally love peanut butter (especially Reese’s).

#4 Fluffy S'mores

"1. In a small bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then the sour cream and milk. Combine the flour, graham cracker crumbs, salt, baking powder, cinnamon and baking soda; beat into creamed until moistened. Fold in chocolate chips.

2. Coat six muffin cups with cooking spray; fill one-fourth full with batter. Spoon 1 tablespoon marshmallow crème into each muffin cup. Top with remaining batter.

3. Bake at 400° for 14-16 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack. Serve warm. Yield: 6 muffins."

- Although this take a lot more time and ingredients, if you get the chance to do them, they are perfect for a rainy afternoon.

#3 What Is better than S'mores? S'mores with Oreos

"1. Spread both sides of each Oreo cookie with peanut butter; place over half of the halved graham crackers. Top with chocolate.

2. Using a long metal skewer or long-handled fork, toast marshmallows 6 in. from medium-hot heat until golden brown, turning occasionally. Place on chocolate; cover with remaining graham crackers. Serve immediately. Yield: 4 servings."

- This is the living proof that EVERYTHING tastes better with Oreos, it is amazing. Warning: I love really sweet things but people who like more mild flavors are not going to love this one.

#2 Double marshmallow

"1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, milk and vanilla. Combine the flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips.

2. Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool.

3. Place four cookies bottom side up on a microwave-safe plate; top each with a marshmallow. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 10-15 seconds or until marshmallows begin to puff (do not overcook). Top each with another cookie. Repeat. Yield: about 2 dozen."

- So this one is almost perfect.

... and last but certainly not least:

.25 cup nutella, warmed

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a brownie pan and put down 9 squares of graham crackers (in 3x3).
In a large bowl mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until just combined. Mix in the chocolate chips.
Evenly spread out the cookie dough into the brownie pan, on top of the gramham crackers. Bake for 12-14 minutes.
Take the pan out, drizzle the warmed nutella over the cookies, add the marshmallows on top, and sprinkle on all the other top layer ingredients you fancy! Bake for another 5 minutes. Be careful the marshmallows brown really easily!
Let cool for 30 minutes before cutting."

- Yes it is super complicated, but do not hesitate to do it, it is absolutely worth it. Guaranteed!
