Sherlock is a TV series created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatissand, produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) along with WGBH since 2010. Its plot is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories from his most famous character, Sherlock Holmes. In it Benedict Cumberbatch (Imitation Game) stars as Sherlock Holmes, and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) as John Watson.

Sherlock is a modern adaptation of the original books, in which Holmes and Watson live and work in the 21th century as consulting detectives helping the Police Department. Benedict Cumberbatch plays an obsessive, antisocial, and tremendously smart Sherlock, one of the most amazing characters I have ever seen. On the other hand, John Watson is a more calm and kind, still very smart man, who is the only person who understands Sherlock and who is trusted by him. Their opposite, yet great personalities, make them be the perfect dynamic duo.

Sherlock and Watson solve different, intriguing, and unpredictable mysteries every episode; meeting all sorts of strange characters, each of them with a very particular story. Finding clues nobody else would and daring to do things no one else attempts appears to be a piece of cake. Their job, discoveries and clues lead them to catch the bad guys. Additionally, episodes follow their private lives; we learn more about Watson relationships, Sherlock’s fascinating past and enigmatic relationship with his powerful brother, we venture through the puzzling detective’s mind and try to decipher the mystery of Sherlock’s secret admirer, who may be a bit dangerous sometimes….

So far the series has three seasons released in 2010, 2012 and 2014 with three episodes each, plus a mini episode and a special release early this year. The fourth season will be released next year; furthermore, a fifth season has also been confirmed. Every episode is related to one of Conan Doyle’s stories, consequently every episode’s name refers to a title of a tale, such as A Study in Pink (originally A Study in Scarlet) or A Scandal in Belgravia (A Scandal in Bohemia).

What makes Sherlock different from other police and investigation TV shows is not only the fact that the plot is not centered on the murders but in the main character, the brilliant way he is able to see everything from different perspectives and all the ideas that pass through his sagacious mind. Besides, every case is very complex, original and unpredictable; these are not cliché stories. Moreover, Sherlock’s parallel story about his secret fan keeps you always wanting to know more, because in this series, one can never guess what is going to happen next.

Therefore I invite everyone who either loves mysteries and adventures, or is Sherlock’s fan, or simply is willing to start watching a new TV show to give a chance to Doyle’s stories and enjoy this amazing series!
